Just Beyond
May 23, 2020
When I was a little girl. I climbed the hill near our house.
From this height I saw the other empty hills. Just before
The darkness the light hit one very special empty hill.
On that hill, I will live. I said as a little girl. My house will be
Beautiful and there I will be happy. On that special empty hill.
When I was an older girl. I climbed aboard a plane.
From the heights I saw the empty streets. Just as the streets
Grew to day the morning sun hit one special street.
On that street, I will live. I said as an older girl.
My house will be small and I will be cool. On that street.
When I was a woman. I walked the road near my beautiful small house.
And as the sun set on the road, I thought. If only I didn’t live here.
I would be happy. I would be cool. If only I lived just beyond in
The town with new and unknown names. Yes, I will go and
Settle there where I will be wise. Among the unknown.
When I was an older woman. I rocked the chair on my porch.
I saw the sun set on the hill nearby and I saw the birds rise from
The river beyond. And I wondered. What if I had lived only here?
What if I am that very special unknown only place that could make me
wise and happy and cool.
