Innocence
Innocence
We thought right was unblemished
Confident in the constancy of wrong
The fragility of man escaped our notice
Young feet walked straight lines
Wide and clear with room for all
Exception improbable doubt impossible
Humanity’s boundaries sharp
Labor begets success
Purity begets love
Sin begets regret
Nobility begets equality
Until we saw them cry
With bowed head and bloodied knees
Until we found regret in purity
With pain that made lines bend
Until we heard the wails arrive
With calloused knights failing still
Until we ourselves pushed the walls
With the furious strength of innocence
And found they did not move
Except to throw upon our hearts
A stab of understanding
In the new agony of knowledge
